Whether discovered through Instagram, a friend’s recommendation, or a hidden gem lying on your very own coffee table, Kaur’s words have a way of providing all you didn’t know you needed. Rupi Kaur - whose second book of poetry 'The Sun and Her Flowers' was published in 2017, the year the NEA collected its most recent data - was undoubtedly a part of many young people's. Rupi Kaur didn’t necessarily start a trend and revival of poetry, but it sure feels that way. Line after line, all I needed to hear found its way to me. Next came its artistic siblings the sun and her flowers and home body, both debuting at 1 on bestseller lists across the world. (Finders, keepers…right?) Seconds later I was immersed into a world of loving encouragement. During a very long day of wallowing in my feelings on my couch, I reached for the copy of milk and honey my roommate abandoned on our coffee table. The first time I experienced Rupi Kaur’s magic is vividly etched into my mind. ![]()
